Parent Resources/Seminars

At Phoenixville, we always strive to challenge our students in order to foster growth. As parents, we know you do the same. Below are some resources and advice on how to continue to challenge your gifted student outside of the classroom. This is not an exhaustive list, so feel free to do your own research in order to find appropriately challenging material for your child.

Code.org - Students can follow a progression of lessons to learn an introductory coding curriculum using blocks.

Khan Academy Free educational lessons on a variety of topics

Coursera This site offers a variety of courses from some of the best professors/universities in the world. Please note that not all of the content is free.

Prodigy Math Free curriculum aligned math game for students in grades 1-8.

Scholastic Books by Reading Level Here, you can search Scholastic books by your child’s Fountas and Pinnell reading level.

Common Sense Media A great resource for parents to make sure that the content in a book your child wants to read is appropriate.

Typing Club This website teaches proper typing skills

Math 24 Helps to develop math fluency.
Practicing math fact fluency All students benefit from repeated practice of their math facts so they are thoroughly fluent (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Being able to do math facts quickly will help students as they begin to work on more challenging problems.
Real World Math Applications Adding up item cost at grocery store, using multiplication to find out “how many”, graphing weather patterns, etc.
Literacy It is important for students to read books on their reading level, but do not to worry too much if your child is choosing an “easy” book, as we want to continue to instill a love of reading.
