II. Notification Procedure

It is essential that we have updated email, home, cell and work phone numbers throughout the year, where you would want to be contacted. Generally, these procedures are effective during heavy snow or ice conditions because parents are aware of the weather conditions.

However, at times, it becomes necessary to close school before the regular dismissal time for reasons other than snow or ice conditions.  Sometimes early closings are necessary because the school has lost its water supply, heat, electricity, etc. after students have already arrived.  Notifying parents about school closings for reasons other than inclement weather is much more difficult because parents may not be aware that there is a problem here at school.

Please know that every effort will be made to notify parents during an emergency, but the school cannot guarantee notification.  In a power failure, for example, our phones don't work.  Even if the phones do work, phone calls are not effective because parents may be out of the home for many reasons.  Your child may be home before we can complete the calls.

IT BECOMES EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, THEREFORE, THAT YOU PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR CHILD IN THE EVENT HE OR SHE ARRIVES TO AN EMPTY HOME.  You should designate a relative, neighbor, or friend within walking distance of your home to which your child can go.  Remember, phones may not be working and after school programs such as Magic Memories and the YMCA may be closed.

Remember this is a house you would want your child to go to if he/she arrived home and found no one there.  It must be within walking distance of your home so that your child can easily get there if he/she gets off of the bus and no one is at home.
